Chemilumen Workshop with Rosalba Breazeale
The Chemilumen involves the combination of Lumen printing process (combining light sensitive paper with objects to create unique and color prints) with additional chemicals that interact with or create a resist. This experimental process allows for various forms of mark making or painting to enter into each unique print. Students will be offered the opportunity to fix their prints during the workshop. No photographic experience necessary.
The 2-hour workshop will be held on Sunday, July 21, 2024 from 12pm-2pm in person. We will begin with a demonstration of various techniques for creating chemilumen photograms after which each participant will create their own. The end of the workshop will be devoted to fixing the print permanently. Remember to wear clothes you don’t mind getting a little messy.
Supplies: Each participant should bring objects that can fit on an 8in.x10in. piece of paper. Natural materials such as flowers and leaves, sheer fabric or small glass objects will make particularly impactful images. Keep in mind we will be working with cyanotype solution, rust pigment and dyes, which could stain any objects (or clothes) they come in contact with. All other materials will be provided. A detailed list of optional supplies will be provided upon registration.
Weather: This is an outdoor workshop. Please be prepared to work in the heat and sun (with some shade available). Bring a water bottle. Your are also welcome to bring a folding chair and snacks to share. In the event of rain, the workshop will still take place on a covered porch.
Cancellation policy: If you cancel more than 7 days before the beginning of your workshop, you will receive a full refund. Cancellation with less than 7 days notice will result in a half refund.
